Maylim were awarded the principal contract by client Knight Dragon.
Overview
As Principal Contractor for this £10.5 million scheme, Maylim were heavily involved in the design development of the full design and build. This included extensive civil engineering design, deep drainage, gas, water and district heating, LV and comms. We also completed the full detailed landscape design including paving, benches, canopy structures, as well as the soft landscaping elements.
Maylim’s remit and key details of work included: site clearance and excavation of the previous landscape scheme and an extensive civils package; including three surface water outfalls into the River Thames. Finishes included 1km of tarmac ULTICOLOUR surfacing, laid to a bespoke pattern to define pedestrian and cycle paths. Approximately 2,000m2 of Vietnamese limestone paving was used across the scheme, as well as large areas of Portuguese sett paving.
Our project team led the design and procurement of the benches and seating areas. The bespoke benches integrate stainless steel planters (housing mature trees), USB charging points, a drinking fountain and feature up-lighting. Large bespoke canopies, weighing up to 15 tonnes, complete the space.
As the site is part of an adoptable carriageway, we were responsible for gaining approvals from the Royal Borough of Greenwich. We also had extensive involvement with the Environmental Agency authority. Due to the location of the project, it was necessary to gain permits and licences around their assets on the Thames.
