Celebrating International Women’s Day 2026. Part 2.
International Women’s Day:
Spotlight on Crystal Henriques
For International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the women whose expertise, leadership and dedication strengthen Maylim every day. Today, we’re proud to highlight Crystal Henriques, our SHEQ Advisor, whose commitment to safety and wellbeing plays a vital role across our projects.
A journey that began with curiosity and grew into purpose.
Crystal’s path into construction started with a course at the London Construction College. What began as an interest in understanding how construction works quickly evolved into a passion for health and safety.
“I was initially interested in gaining practical knowledge about construction processes, but I quickly developed a strong interest in health and safety.”
That curiosity has become the foundation of a career focused on protecting people and improving the environments they work in.
Making a meaningful impact every day.
For Crystal, the most rewarding part of her role is knowing that her work genuinely matters.
She takes pride in shifting perceptions of health and safety from a “box‑ticking exercise” to something proactive, supportive and integral to every project’s success.
“What I enjoy most about my role is knowing that the work I do genuinely makes a difference. Ensuring people go home safely at the end of the day is incredibly rewarding. I also enjoy the variety, no two days are the same. I get to engage with different teams, solve practical problems, improve processes, and promote a positive safety culture. Building relationships on site and changing perceptions around health and safety from “box-ticking” to something proactive and supportive is something I take pride in.”
Encouraging more women into construction.
Crystal believes that visibility and support are essential to bringing more women into the industry.
“We need better visibility of female role models and clearer career pathways. Construction and SHEQ roles should be promoted in schools and colleges as viable, rewarding careers for women.”
Crystal also highlights the importance of inclusive site cultures, flexible working options, and zero tolerance for discrimination all crucial for helping women not only enter the industry but thrive within it.
“Flexible working options, inclusive site cultures, and zero tolerance for discrimination are also key. Mentorship programmes and supportive networks can make a huge difference in helping women feel confident and supported when entering what is still a male-dominated environment.”
Inspired by strength, resilience, and leadership.
Crystal’s greatest role models are close to home.
“My greatest female role model is my mum & nan. They have always demonstrated resilience, a strong work ethic and the confidence to stand their ground, which has inspired me throughout my career. Watching them balance responsibility with determination showed me that women can succeed in any environment. Professionally, I also draw inspiration from senior women in construction and health and safety who have paved the way in leadership roles, proving that progression is achievable with dedication and self-belief.”
Thank you, Crystal.
We’re proud to celebrate Crystal and all the women who contribute to Maylim’s success. Their resilience, expertise, passion and leadership continue to shape our business and inspire the next generation entering the industry.
