Canada Water Plaza

The Canada Water regeneration programme is set to deliver a vibrant new town centre for Rotherhithe that will invite people to shop, socialise and enjoy the peace and quiet of the dockside.

Overview

In partnership with British Land, Southwark Council intend to deliver nearly 3,000 new homes, as well as retail units, office spaces, leisure facilities and a new civic square with a library designed by Piers Gough.

We were tasked with delivering the external works in two strategic phases. Phase 1 involved creating a continuous flow of pedestrian areas between the Canada Water bus station and the plaza area. We reconstructed the area surrounding the bus station with reinforced concrete, finished with granite paving. Fundamental to this was the need to manage pedestrian and traffic flow alongside coordination of London Underground staff.

Phase 2 focused on roadwork’s surrounding the site with the aim of seamlessly connecting Canada Water bus station to the plaza area and improving pedestrian and vehicle flow. We also paved the plaza area with granite and integrated bespoke slot drainage systems, numerous light features and stylish street furniture.
