Mercers’ Yard

The Mercers' Yard development showcases a unique design complimenting this well-known cultural and traditional area of London, creating a vibrant new addition to the Covent Garden district.

Overview

This exciting new hub in the heart of Covent Garden mixes both retail and residential opportunities in a sought-after and central location of the capital. The outcome is the creation a bold and spacious public realm which holds the same buzz and atmosphere as its surroundings.

Maylim were part of this collaborative project and worked closely with Ian Richie Architects. The granite paving that stretches across the large piazza required close coordination; due to the complex design detailed drawings were devised and changes made by ourselves to adhere to the clients vision for the overall design of the project. Grid lines were set and each individual block was counted in order to achieve this intricate design.

Logistically, this project provided many challenges. Due to the enclosed area and narrow surrounding cobbles streets access to the site was restricted and required forward planning and trade and delivery access had to be scheduled and discussed in advance as there was no storage on site to hold materials. Working together with Volkerlaser, Maylim’s work was completed alongside the construction of new buildings as well as the refurbishment of the historic 19th Century warehouse. This commanded for solid relationships to be forged and close communication was built between ourselves and the other trades on site.
