KKO & Handyside Park

We were delighted to be awarded the Handyside Park project, along with all of the associated hard and soft landscaping works connecting Granary Square through to the Midland Goods Shed (KKO).

Overview

Maintaining our on-going relationship with Argent, the KKO project with Contractors Design Portions commenced in September 2014 with Maylim successfully completing the project in October 2015. Handyside Park was the first park to be built in the King’s Cross development and was beautifully designed by Dan Pearson Studio. It creates a green route from Granary Square and Regents Canal.

The initial scope saw the completion of the S278 works to Handyside Street with all granite kerbing, granite speed tables and associated surfacing and lighting. The second phase of the project included the full construction and hard landscaping to the area within the Midland Goods Shed. This incorporated drainage and utility works in preparation for the 2500sqm of Porfry paving which completes the stunning urban space of Granary Square.

Our remit in the final phases of this diverse project saw us install raised planters made with Corten steel, as well as numerous contemporary seating areas. There is also a water rill which meanders through the park from a children’s play area. Modern and unique designs broaden the space, helping to open up the front area of Waitrose and its new cookery school, creating a functional communal area.

Contracted as one of Argents tier one hard landscapers we were delighted to continue our work on the new King’s Cross development where we are also carrying out projects though the four main tier contractors; Carillion, BAM, Kier and Vinci. We completed all aspects of this project including all deep excavations over the shallow Network rail tunnels whilst carrying out all dig and fill activities in 5-10m wide sections to ensure weight remanded on the tunnels working in close co-ordination with our trusted sub-contractors Willerby’s, Miller Druck and The Fountain Workshop.
