Bishops Square Reopens After Major Transformation
Bishops Square is a popular space in London’s lively east-end spot, Spitalfields. The public realm has reopened after its recent transformation led by Maylim for client JP Morgan Assets. The project, designed by Fosters + Partners, aimed to improve accessibility, modernise the square and create a welcoming space for all.
As principal contractor, the Maylim team removed the old scheme and introduced new features to enhance the landscape. This included a paving scheme, drainage system, pop-up power points and a bespoke lighting scheme. The square now boasts new seating areas, including timber seating, long pre-cast tables and button seating, and seating pyramids, providing ample spaces for relaxation and socialising.
The Bishops Square project prioritises soft landscaping and now features a lush lawn, semi-mature trees, herbaceous planting and wildlife areas. The revitalised landscape offers a refreshing green space with consideration for the local community and encourages biodiversity.
