Barts Square

Located between Smithfield Market and the Barbican, Barts Square is a new urban quarter in the historic heart of London.

Overview

This residential-led mixed-use development provides a harmonious combination of both historical and modern architecture. The scheme comprises 236 apartments, 246,000ft2 office space and 25,000ft2 retail and leisure space.

The external areas surrounding the new development boast two private and tranquil residential gardens, both of which Maylim were contracted to complete all hard and soft landscaping elements. As well as this, our scope of works included the terraces for the luxurious duplex apartments.

Over 800m2 key details of our remit included; a resin-bound play area, circular seating areas and benches positioned around the soft landscaping and lawns, metal work and railing around the perimeters of the courtyard gardens, drainage attenuation, all paving and hard landscaping including stepping stones across the lawned gardens, Portland stone copings and cladding around the light wells in the duplex apartments.

Due to the project’s location, logistics were often challenging. The team had to manually handle all materials in the courtyard as a crane was not permitted for use. During Maylim’s delivery of the scheme, a mix of other trades were working in the same area, often with four different projects within the courtyard at one time.
