The Tide

The Tide is one of the first phases of Knight Dragon’s masterplan for the regeneration of the Peninsula.

Overview

The Tide is the highly anticipated linear park and elevated running track alongside Greenwich Peninsula’s riverfront. On 5th July 2019, the first kilometre of this 5-kilometre-long elevated walkway was opened to the public.

Mace contracted Maylim to complete the external works and landscape package. Design development included detailed paving layouts, granite cladding and seating drawings. As well as this, Maylim also produced the detailed design of the statue plinth to accommodate ‘The Mermaid’, a sculpture by Damien Hirst.

Maylim’s remit included the complete works package from the basement to finishers, incorporating waterproofing, groundworks build-ups and drainage. We also completed the groundworks and civils package off slab to the north and south of the site. Large fair-faced concrete retaining walls, up to 4 metres high and 3 metres wide, were installed with excavations up to 3 metres deep. These works were complex, with many excavations completed around live services. Our project team also designed, supplied, and installed the external works package, including vent grilles, retaining angles, edgings, and bespoke slot drains.

The soft landscaping package features native trees, grasses and wildflowers across large landscaped mounds. Bespoke metal planters filled with shrubs and grasses are dotted around the paved spaces. Granite-clad benches line the large riverfront step terrace with limestone-paved terraces. There is also a generous granite-paved central square, which has already been used for numerous festivals and events.
