Coal Drops Yard

Coal Drops Yard is a new and unique shopping district at King’s Cross.

Overview

The scheme is the latest addition to the vast redevelopment of the buildings and spaces surrounding two of London’s busiest train stations.

Nestled between Lewis Cubitt Square and The Gas Holder Triplets, Coal Drops Yard is formed from two refurbished Victorian sheds. Heatherwick Studios have reimagined these buildings to create a stunning new retail destination. The roofs of the two buildings have been extended towards each other forming a canopy over the central space.

The public realm consists of the large central square space, walkways, staircases and bridges that link from the Coal Offices. Maylim’s remit on this stunning scheme included the reduced dig, installation of ducting and drainage, concrete works, as well as all of the paving scheme and hard landscaping and the installation of the soft.

Maylim were also part of the design development, working on the design of the paving and stair layouts, in-ground boxes, cycle stands, manhole covers and slot drainage.
