Maylim Supports Youth-Led STORE STORE Pavilion at King’s Cross for London Design Festival 2024

Maylim was delighted to support this project by providing materials and resources for the construction. Local students, aged 14-18, designed and built this unique community space during three STORE Summer Schools.

The Pavilion, situated in Granary Square, King’s Cross, is part of a broader initiative by STORE STORE, a shop and educational space on Lower Stable Street. The initiative aims to foster participatory design and applied learning among young people from the local community.

Crafted from locally reclaimed and fallen timber, the Pavilion is a testament to sustainable construction and youth-led design. Its creation involved young people who participated in the STORE Summer Schools. At the schools they learned the principles of architecture, design, and material reuse. Maylim proudly contributed by supplying timber, concrete, and tools to support the build.

The Pavilion will be open to the public during the London Design Festival 2024. Hosting a series of interactive workshops and talks, it offers visitors the opportunity to engage with the design process and explore sustainable building practices.

The STORE BUILD initiative aims to transform a garage site into a vibrant educational and workshop hub. It employs a radical and hands-on approach to design. The young participants engage in every stage of the process, fostering creativity, sustainability, and teamwork.

The pavilion will be in Granary Square, King’s Cross, from 14th – 22nd September 2024.
