Emirates Stadium
Working in partnership with Sir Robert McAlpine and McNicholas Plc., The Emirates Stadium project for Arsenal Football Club was a complex yet rewarding programme of interrelated civils, highways and hard landscaping projects.
Overview
Our remit during the course of the project included the installation of five flights of bespoke Chinese granite stairs, and the waterproofing, tarmacking and implementation of drainage systems for two new access bridges. It was then essential that we diverted Network Rail’s drainage systems into a new Thames Water sewer. Works also included complete realignment of the main Hornsey Road with new islands and the installation of a large roundabout, all completed without closing the road.
We were also responsible for 45,000sqm of civil works for the surfacing of underground car parks, street furniture around the VIPs and coach set-down car parks, full hard and soft landscaping works to the social housing area and the construction of the Highways widening 106 works to the Holloway Road and Hornsey Road Junction.
A stylish VIP plaza in front of the main stadium entrance and superstore was completed the project along with the positioning of two imposing cannons to represent the Gunners.
The project was often challenging as deadlines for completion were tight and the ability to start work on different areas was dictated by progress elsewhere on site. However, the finished article is a modernised area for avid fans and local passers-by to utilise and enjoy on a day to day basis.
