Paradise Birmingham – Chamberlain Square

Paradise Birmingham is a major regeneration scheme located in the historic civic heart of Birmingham City Centre.

Overview

Work commenced on the 17-acre Paradise Birmingham development in 2015. Since then, the area has been transformed into a vibrant, office-led estate of commercial, civic, retail, leisure and hotel space.

The masterplan significantly improves pedestrian access across the city and dramatically enhances the public realm. The new development integrates office buildings, ground-level retail and the high-quality public realm with Birmingham’s most historic squares and listed buildings.

In 2019 Maylim commenced work on the first phase, Chamberlain Square. Works included landscaping the main square and the areas surrounding new buildings One and Two Chamberlain Square. The scheme involved public realm landscaping and associated works, M&E installations, management suite fit-out, and incoming utilities’ completion.

As part of the scope of works, Maylim was contracted to complete the transportation and re-installation of the Sir Thomas Atwood statue. Unlike conventional statues, this 250kg bronze is not on a pedestal. Instead, it features its subject relaxing on the steps of Chamberlain Square.

High-quality and durable materials have been used throughout the scheme. Bold and robust planting complements the design and character of the new and existing architecture. A mix of stone finishes, including steps, terraces and walls, integrate into the landscape to create a distinctive public realm.
