South Quay Plaza
Berkeley Group appointed Maylim as Landscape Contractor for the South Quay Plaza public realm.
Overview
South Quay Plaza (also known as SQP) is a residential-led development located in the Isle of Dogs. SQP consists of three residential towers and 1.78ha of public realm. The landscape was designed by HTA Design LLP to provide a variety of spaces that can be used for both relaxation and play.
The scheme programme was split into three phases, with Maylim commencing work on phase one in May 2019. Phase three received practical completion and was opened to the public in April 2021.
Key elements of the project included: hard and soft landscaping, waterproofing of the podium slab, installation of the external lighting scheme with bespoke laser cut patterned lighting columns and under bench lighting, street furniture and children’s play equipment.
Working with HTA Design, our team developed the design for the bench structures. We installed the granite-clad units, incorporating hidden ventilation extractors from the basement below.
The paving pattern was designed and installed to precision, aligning all joints with key features of the scheme to ensure a seamless and high-quality finish. The granite procured was hand selected by the client, architect and Maylim’s project team on location. Across all three phases, our skilled team of pavers installed over 4,000m2 of this granite.
The extensive soft landscaping incorporates mature trees and a planting scheme that provides an immediate green impact. Maylim self-delivered the soft landscaping for phase three, which included over 5,400 plants of various species, established hedgerows, dome topiaries and 31 mature trees.
