The Television Centre
Furthering our involvement on the regeneration of White City, Maylim were appointed to complete works on The Television Centre.
Overview
Having completed the externals for the White City Place redevelopment in 2017, Maylim were appointed to work on the renovation of the iconic BBC Television Centre. As contractors for Client Stanhope, our remit primarily involved the hard landscaping of the external spaces.
The new design preserves the Television Centre’s much loved and well-known features. Spacious forecourts and landscaped areas surround the building which also includes various pre-cast elements. Newly paved pathways and step terraces lead through to the refurbished Helios Plaza. Across an 8000m2 area Maylim’s remit comprised groundworks, hard landscaping and sections of waterproofing across four key work areas. Other works included pre-cast benching, retaining walls, planters and kerbs, deep drainage, ducting, linear drainage, street furniture, bespoke metal work.
Maylim were also involved in the design development for the project. This included working on detailed paving layouts, module details pre-cast retaining walls and planters, sampling and design, as well as bespoke metal work including fencing, handrails, gates.
Working on a listed building project provided many logistical challenges including extensive in-ground obstructions associated with developing a brownfield site, as well as phases occupation including live TV studios.
Although the area is now open to the public, the project isn’t set to fully complete until June 2018.
