Westfield – White City

For the Westfield White City development, we were appointed as part of the Skanska infrastructure Services Team to manage full external works to a value exceeding £21m. Despite a fast-moving and logistically challenging project, this iconic shopping centre opened on time in October 2008.

Overview

We were responsible for the full groundworks and external works package to three sides of the building including highway entrance works on Aerial Way and Eastern Access Road, a new bus station terminal and car park entrances, Wood Lane footway, as well as landscaping works including the new Hammersmith and City Line LUL station protection screen at Wood Lane 10B.

Our remit also included full co-ordination of building works and this ranged from making sure 300 HGVs could move around freely on a daily basis during fit-out stages to working closely with other trades. Working with paving experts Miller Druck, our team worked on all reinforced concrete sub strata including numerous double curvature concrete retaining walls that would ensure accuracy for the high-quality granite finishings.

Our contract extended to cover the construction of curved planters and steps along Wood Lane and up to the East Street landings, as well as the installation of bespoke and practical street furniture including stainless steel handrails, cycle stands, waste bins and bus shelters.
