Canal and River Trust Volunteering Day at Greenford Quay

Canal River Trust Litter Picking Day

Maylim’s social value objectives focus on not only developing quality public realm but also on maintaining and protecting the existing environment and communities surrounding these schemes.

Following the first phase of works completed in 2020, Greenford Quay Phase 2 is located alongside the Grand Union Canal. The towpath is a busy stretch of land which, unfortunately, is often subject to littering and fly-tipping. Project Manager, Phil Daly, made contact with the Canal and River Trust to explore ways in which Maylim could help.

The Trust worked with Maylim to develop a volunteering day; providing a practical and meaningful experience for the team whilst delivering a positive environmental and social impact for the canal. A team of 10 Maylim volunteers spent the day litter picking and collected over 20 bags of waste from the pathways and canal.

With the help of volunteers, the Canal and River Trust can conserve our country’s beautiful green and blue spaces. Volunteering days such as this work towards helping local wildlife thrive. They also benefit the health, happiness and wellbeing of both the local community and those who take part.
