60 Curzon
60 Curzon combines hardscaping with lush planting to create a luxurious oasis in the heart of Mayfair.
Overview
The Development
60 Curzon is an exclusive residential development in Mayfair, one of London’s most prestigious districts. Blending art deco with contemporary design, this scheme was a collaboration between PLP Architecture and renowned interior designer Thierry Despont. Nestled in Mayfair’s chic south-west quadrant, 60 Curzon offers its residents unparalleled luxury. It is surrounded by boutiques, art galleries, Michelin-starred restaurants, and two Royal Parks, all just moments away from Berkeley Square.
The Vision
Award-winning landscape architects Gustafson Porter + Bowman designed the resident’s courtyard garden at 60 Curzon. The brief called for a private garden to provide a tranquil retreat for residents amidst the urban surroundings of London. The principal contractor, Balfour Beatty, selected Maylim as the landscaping contractor to bring this vision to life, completing both the hard and soft landscaping elements of the project.
The Landscaping Scheme
Maylim’s role in the 60 Curzon project was comprehensive, from the installation of a waterproofed slab extending through to the final finishes of both hard and soft landscaping. A key component of the project was the construction of a reinforced concrete structure, creating a striking ‘tabletop’ water feature. The water feature forms an eye-catching centrepiece of the garden. It is clad in a combination of Indian and Chinese black granite, chosen for their complementary textures and hues. Water enters the feature through the joints in the top panels, flows gently over the edges, and cascades down the sides, creating a serene and continuous movement. The unique design includes “jagged” slips of Indian granite along its sides. The placement of these elements splashes the water, creating a dynamic “white-water” effect.
The soft landscaping for the garden complements the hardscape. Mature trees provide shade and structure, while dense planting beds add layers of greenery and colour. Low-level ground cover weaves between limestone stepping stones, creating a natural flow that invites residents to explore the garden. The selection of plants and the thoughtful layout ensure that the garden is not only visually pleasing but also a peaceful retreat that blends with the overall design of the development.
