Triptych Bankside
Triptych Bankside in Southwark is a mixed-use development featuring three strikingly sculpted buildings nestled within a landscaped park.
Overview
Project Overview
The project extends the Tate Modern Park eastward; creating a counterpoint to the nearby Tate Modern and the historic Globe Theatre along the River Thames.
Designed by Squire & Partners, Triptych Bankside has two residential towers with 169 homes alongside 85,000 sq. ft of office space. The development features independent retail, wellness, and cultural areas.
The architecture comprises gently twisting forms and sweeping terraces that give the buildings their unique look. These spaces offer great views of landmarks like St. Paul’s Cathedral and Tate Modern. At ground level, the development has reintroduced historic pathways like Emerson Place, creating new walkways that blend with the surrounding area.
Maylim’s Remit
Client JTRE appointed Maylim to deliver phases one and two of the external works scheme under Principal Contractor Sons & Co.
The scope of Maylim’s work included the installation of below-ground drainage, an attenuation system, site-wide containment systems for lighting, and build-ups to all external areas. The external finishes prominently feature intricate granite cladding for benches and retaining walls. The seamless integration of hard and soft landscaping elements, designed by ME Landscape Studio, was crucial in transforming the area into a cohesive public space that resonates with the artistic spirit of the South Bank.
Additional elements include a new lighting scheme, a water feature and street furniture. Surrounding the development, Maylim also completed the S278 pavement and carriageway surfacing.
The island site, bounded by Park Street, Emerson, and Sumner Street, presented logistical challenges due to its urban location. Maylim’s team, in collaboration with Sons & Co., navigated these challenges by carefully coordinating the supply and installation of materials. This ensured minimal disruption to the surrounding community while maintaining the project’s quality standards.
Triptych Bankside is a landmark development that not only provides luxurious residential and commercial spaces but also contributes significantly to the cultural and social fabric of the South Bank. The project’s thoughtfully designed green spaces and public amenities invite both residents and visitors to engage with the area. The outcome is a vibrant urban environment that reflects the essence of contemporary city living.
