Royal Festival Hall

Forming part of the bigger refurbishment programme for London’s Royal Festival Hall and Riverlink Squares, Maylim were appointed to upgrade existing landscaping utilising the area to become a new and exciting public realm.

Overview

Part of the Lend Lease, McNicholas and Miller Druck’s paving teams, we installed new Chinese granite and limestone paving to the main piazza areas, the square in front of Canteen restaurant and the back-house areas of the hall.

Our remit included full clearance of the existing paved areas, construction of the sub strata areas to the underside, and construction of a new reinforced concrete slab integrating the Elkington Gatic drainage system. A bespoke LED system by NJO and designed by Speirs and Major was built into the paving lines, functioning like a graphic equalizer arrangement, the LEDs flash in time with music from inside the hall.

Our remit was extended to include highway alterations, civils for the lighting system, street furniture, and soft landscaping elements of the square and art sculptures by a local art group.
